While a hot rumor of SNK Playmore working on a Samurai Shodown revival of sorts, we’ve learned (via MMCafe) the developer is still holding on hope for a sequel to one of their older IPs, the latest in the Fatal Fury series, Garou: Mark of the Wolves.

The news comes from a livestream in which the developer showed off some more The King of Fighters XIV, their latest fighting game set for PlayStation 4. They also held the Seika Kyouen tournament, where game producer Yasuyuki Oda made a surprise visit.

He commented on the game, and even threw in a slight tease for the fans still wanting a Garou sequel, by pointing out the title of the event “Mark of the Wolves.”

“I think people here are thinking, ‘Hey what are you doing, aren’t you forgetting about Garou?‘” Oda said. “I’m going to do something about it before I die (laughs), so please keep on supporting us.” He also talked up re-releasing another classic of theirs, The Last Blade 2.

“And don’t forget Last Blade too. We’re going to be releasing details on Last Blade 2 on the PS4 and Vita soon, so please look forward.”

Fans or newcomers are probably wondering why SNK Playmore diverted their main fighting game series into essentially two competing IPs, Fatal Fury and The King of Fighters. While the former was more of a direct competitor to Street Fighter (right down to the mechanics), the latter was more of a differently styled fighting game, but still direct competitor nonetheless.
