We’ve learned that SNK Playmore is possibly working on a new Samurai Shodown game.
The rumor comes via two independent sources over on Hadoken.net, who claim the game has been in development for some time and will launch in 2017.
The sources claim the game will hearken back to the series beginnings, and just like the developers upcoming The Kings of Fighters XIV, will use a combination of 2D gameplay with 3D character models.
It’s worth mentioning the sources claim that SNK Playmore is also working on a new anime alongside the game, which coincides with the developer’s new parent company looking to expand their IP into new ventures – including games of course.
We’ve reached out to SNK Playmore for a comment.
