The Elder Scrolls Online 2022 Expansion Announced, Teases “Never-Before-Seen World”

Publisher Bethesda Softworks and developer ZeniMax Online Media have revealed a new The Elder Scrolls Online 2022 expansion, which is set in a seemingly all-new region.

The new Elder Scrolls Online 2022 expansion is reportedly set in a “never-before-seen world” and will feature a “tale that has yet to be told,” and will be revealed on January 27th at 12 PM Pacific / 3 PM Eastern. You’ll be able to watch it live via Twitch.

The live reveal for the new content will give the first look at the new “Chapter” expansion and the subsequent downloadable content that will fill out the entire year’s content in The Elder Scrolls Online.

“Across a vast sea awaits 2022’s newest adventure for The Elder Scrolls Online,” ZeniMax says of this year’s update. “The coming year will satisfy a desire of Elder Scrolls fans everywhere by introducing a never-before-seen world and a tale that has yet to be told.”

They added, “Get ready to explore new lands, uncover new dangers, and experience all-new stories in the ever-growing world of The Elder Scrolls Online!”

Here’s the new teaser for the new expansion:

It’s not entirely clear where this new expansion could be set, however, Bethesda titled the reveal post “A storm rises over Tamriel” and suggests players will go to a new island of some kind – or a cataclysmic nature storm. The two recent chapters- Blackwood and Greymoor, saw players return to popular regions from previous games in both Cyrodiil and Syrim, respectively.

The original expansion for Elder Scrolls Online was set in Vvardenfell, the setting of The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind, and some other lesser-known areas have been explored like the the Summerset Isles and even the Khajiit homeland of Elsweyr. Whatever the new expansion is, it’ll be somewhere totally new.

The Elder Scrolls Online is currently available across Windows PC, Mac (both via Steam), Xbox One, PS4, and Stadia – and more recently on Xbox Series X|S and PS5 as of July 2021.
