The Steam Winter Sale is finally here, and with it come many discounts, but it can be difficult to filter some of the lesser-known games because of just how big the platform is, which is why we decided to showcase some hidden gems on discount today.
Interested gamers can find metroidvanias, roguelikes, action-filled first-person shooters, MMORPG homages and more for very cheap.
Below you can find six indie titles we wanted to highlight thanks to their quality and high discounts, enjoy!
Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona
Claw your way out of a mountain of corpses and claim revenge as Derek Ericona, a betrayed lord who discovered a fate worse than death.
Skelethrone is a 2D metroidvania inspired by the Dark Souls and Castlevania series, taking place in a decaying world filled with horrific creatures and dangerous locations. The game features a lot of freedom when it comes to its exploration, allowing players to tackle the game’s areas in a non-linear fashion.
If the grim dark fantasy visuals are not enough, Skelethrone is also brutally difficult, featuring incredibly dangerous enemies and tough bosses, which are guaranteed to put your skills to the test. Most of the creatures you encounter in Skelethrone are relentless, and will stop at nothing to put you back in the ground.
Skelethrone: The Chronicles of Ericona is available on Steam for $9.74 with a 35% discount.
Atlyss
Atlyss is a hack-and-slash RPG insipired by MMOs with real time combat, featuring three different classes that can be customized to your liking with different equipment and skills.
Atlyss mostly ditches the Massive Multiplayer Online part of the genre and focuses more in the RPG aspects, allowing players to experience the game solo without any issues, although still featuring both online PvP and Co-op.
Most of the genre’s flourishes are still present, like the quest design and emphasis on character customization and cosmetics, making it a great and condensed experience for those who miss old-school MMOs like Grand Chase or Tera but don’t necessarily feel like putting themselves through horrible pay-to-win experiences anymore.
Atlyss is available on Steam for $5.99 with a 40% discount.
Striving for Light
Striving for Light is a roguelike ARPG where players fight their way through the darkness while upgrading their character’s equipment and skills.
The game takes inspiration from Diablo and Path of Exile for its mechanics, creating a deep RPG system that lets players customize their character in various ways thanks to the insanely big skill tree.
Striving for light has tons of itemization options, as well as eight classes for players to try out, all with their unique upgrade paths and different abilities.
Striving for Light is available on Steam for $10.49 with a 30% discount.
Dead Estate
Dead Estate is a love letter to Capcom’s classic survival horror series Resident Evil, even featuring its own version of Nemesis which follows you throughout the game’s stages. The game takes place in a massive manor, which players have to move through floor by floor to escape the zombified experiments that reside within.
The game draws inspiration from Nuclear Throne for its roguelike mechanics, featuring very little meta progression, instead relying on character and achievement unlocks as its incentive for replayability. Most runs go by really fast, and the game has quite a few weapons and items to spice up your escape attempts.
Dead Estate has recently released its last major content update, which adds 70 new items, new alternate endings, 31 new weapons, a set of alternate beach costumes for all characters, and so much more. Needless to say, this is best time to get into Dead Estate, and the discount surely helps!
Dead Estate is available on Steam for $9.74 with a 35% discount.
Deadlink
Deadlink is a fast-paced arena shooter with an emphasis on class-based gameplay, letting you choose between the balanced soldier, stealthy hunter, or heavy engineer, all of which have different weapons and combat skills available.
The game moves at a breakneck pace, featuring a wide variety of implants you can jam right into your brain for better combat performance, as well as different weapons that are unlocked by finding hidden codex entries.
Deadlink follows its cyberpunk themes quite closely, as the main goal of the game is to invade and destroy a megacorporation in the most violent way possible. Fans of arena shooters are going to have a blast with its non-stop cyberpunk action, and its roguelike elements provide a great amount of replayability.
Deadlink is available on Steam for $16.24 with a 35% discount.
V Rising
Frequent readers of the site are most likely familiar with V Rising, as it might be one of our most covered games, featuring multiple guides, previews, and recently a final review of its 1.0 release. Both past and present staff remain infatuated with the game, and for good reason.
V Rising is an open world survival ARPG that lets you play as one of the most hated creatures in the world of Vardoran, a vampire. Humans, undead, machines and even the sun are working against you, but through sheer determination and lots of bloodshed you will take over the lands and create an eternal eclipse.
V Rising is one of the best genre mixtures out there, combining the intricacies of survival crafting with a brutally satisfying ARPG combat system without compromising on anything. It is no exaggeration to say that Stunlock Studios has one of the best indie games currently available, as well as one of the most in-depth vampire experiences.
V Rising is available on Steam for $20.99 with a 40% discount.
