Square Enix President and Chairman Yosuke Matsuda has allegedly stated that new games set to be revealed in July and August.
According to Livedoor blog “No Investment, No Life,” the blogger claims they attended a Square Enix shareholder’s meeting on June 24th. During a Q&A session, Matsuda was reportedly asked about the influence of the coronavirus on Square Enix.
The ongoing coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19 officially, or Chinese Flu to others) has affected many worldwide, from businesses to public gatherings and events.
This includes postponements of GDC, the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, the physical events for EVO 2020 and Tokyo Game Show 2020, and cancellations E3 2020 (including digital events), BlizzCon 2020, the physical event for Gamescom 2020, Comiket 98, and MAGStock 2020.
We had previously reported how a Square Enix employee at their Tokyo HQ tested positive for the virus, and Square Enix briefly offering free face masks with select purchases of over $100 on the Square Enix Store.
Having mentioned E3 2020, Matsuda allegedly revealed that Square Enix could not hold a presentation as an alternative to E3 2020 due to a “lack of assets.” Not only will Square Enix now reveal new games “at the timing when it can be announced,” but new games are set to be revealed in July and August.
“Q: Normally, there will be a new game announcement at E3, but what is the influence of corona this year?
A: Normally, new games will be announced at E3. I was planning to hold a presentation as an alternative, but I couldn’t hold it due to lack of assets. From now on, each title will be released at the timing when it can be announced. We plan to release some from July to August.”

Due to how short the questions and answers are throughout the blogpost we do have some doubts. However, we feel this may be due to machine translation, or the original blog post paraphrasing.
It could be possible some of these titles were intended to be shown at E3 2020. However, this would not make sense as to why Square Enix would not have the assets required to reveal the game- if the presentation would be a livesteam akin to an E3 presentation.
