Not long after a new rumor claims Final Fantasy XVI is finally coming to Sony rival platform Xbox, one of the top producers at Square Enix has pledged to bring their titles to the Microsoft platform.
The news comes from an interview focused on Square’s popular MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV, which finally came to Xbox not long ago and launched its new Dawntrail expansion – the former of which many fans thought would never happen.
Speaking on the launch of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox platforms, series producer and director Naoki Yoshida said they’ve seen a “really strong response on Xbox” and they’ve seen new communities that are growing rapidly on the platform.
The Square Enix producer went on to say they want to use the launch of the MMO on Xbox to “further deepen the relationship with Xbox gamers moving forward.”
“With Final Fantasy XIV’s release on Xbox, Phil Spencer spent a lot of his time and a lot of effort and put in a lot of hard work into making it a reality,” Yoshida said. “So we would like to make the best of that and further deepen the relationship with Xbox gamers moving forward.”
Yoshida said the launch of Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox was “important not for Final Fantasy XIV, but, I would say, for Square Enix” as a whole. He added the company will be using Final Fantasy XIV as a “starting point” to release more Square Enix games on the platform, despite its small install base in Japan.
This shift in bringing Square Enix titles to Xbox falls in line with their new shift in direction for an aggressive multiplatform strategy, likely due to slowing sales on Sony platforms (and several main titles of theirs being exclusive to PlayStation).
“[…] We really want as many players as possible to play our titles,” Yoshida said. “So with Final Fantasy 14 as the starting point, we do want to release more Square Enix games on Xbox, and there will be more of our titles released on Xbox. So I hope players will look forward to future things to come on the platform.”
