Square Enix Image Studio Division Formed, Merger from Visual Works Division and Image Arts Division

Square Enix Image Studio Division

Square Enix has announced they’ve opened a new studio, the Square Enix Image Studio Division, a merger from both their Visual Works Division and their Image Arts Division.

Takeshi Nozue will take up post as the general manager, and their headquarters is located in Shinjuku, Tokyo. Both divisions are primarily known for their various CG cutscenes and trailers produced for the majority of Square’s games, starting with the legendary Final Fantasy VII.

Here’s a brief rundown on the studio:

The Visual Works Division has created pre-rendered movies for many of the Company’s game titles. The Image Arts Division, whose core staff includes members from the team that created the movie KINGSGLAIVE: FINAL FANTASY XV, has meanwhile engaged in research and development into high-end visual expression with a focus on real-time graphics.

By fusing the technologies and attributes of the two divisions into the SQUARE ENIX Image Studio Division, the Company aims to become faster at its research and development efforts into next-generation visual expression and at incorporating the results of those efforts into actual content. It thereby hopes to provide its customers with an even higher quality of experience.

The new internal studio reportedly is not limited to just high-end video production, they can handle everything from design to post production, and even editorial. They also collaborate on joint development for Square Enix titles, as well as promotion. While they focus on video production as well, they have a professional sound studio.

Here’s what the studio offers:

  • High-end movie production / editing
  • Motion capture studio management
  • In-game real-time cutscene production
  • Planning, production and production of media content
  • R & D

They also offer the following services at their attached sound studio:

  • Sound direction and sound production
  • Music production
  • Sound effect production (including 5.1ch)
  • Sound program
  • Vocal and musical instrument recording (domestic recording)
  • MA work

For now, you can visit the new studio’s official website here.
