Not long after confirming a massive company policy change, Square Enix has announced layoffs as part of their ongoing restructuring.
The new report (via VGC) alleges a meeting took place with company this Monday where company president Takashi Kiryu said both the American and European branches will see layoffs over the next month.
A real number of layoffs wasn’t shared but Square Enix will be cutting staff in publishing, information technology support, and their Square Enix Collective indie publishing arm.
Affected staff will reportedly be told this week if they’re being cut, and after the internal meetings on Monday many of Square Enix’s main internal Slack channels were reportedly locked off.
As mentioned the layoffs come not long after Square Enix posted disappointing sales and revenue, prompting them to announce a bold new multiplatform strategy and seemingly drop console exclusives entirely.
