Sega has released their earnings report for Q3 of FY 2023 where they confirmed Sonic Frontiers has sold over 2.9 million units.
Back in December it was reported that the game had topped 2.5 million copies. The game has sold multiple times over the previous flagship Sonic game, Sonic Forces.
These numbers are recorded to the end of December 2022, which means this is mainly updated sales that likely took advantage of holiday sales during Christmas where the game was likely bought as a gift.
Sales from Sonic Frontiers also shows a bright spot for Sega, as revenue from new titles hit a massive spike for the company when compared to the previous few years thanks to the game’s release.
News of the game’s success are certainly welcome for the company. Especially given that the game is expected to be considered the “cornerstone” for future titles going forward. However they also stated that future games won’t all be open world.
Sonic Frontiers is available now across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. You can check out our review here!
