Some Content in Destiny 2 Now Locked Behind DLC

In the midst of a micro-transaction and lootbox debacle plaguing the gaming industry, it seems like other developers are trying to gate off content players had access to in games they already own.

Now that Bungie and Activision have released the first expansion for Destiny 2, titled “Curse of Osiris,” the game has now seen content locked away behind a paywall with the new DLC.

The new expansion’s launch has effectively gated off many of the in-game activities, essentially forcing users with just the base game to pony up or literally have portions of the game now cut off.

Previously, end-game content requirements were at higher power levels for the base game – now you need the expansion and an even higher power level to access the same content like the raid and the Nightfall strike, hard mode content, and the like.

Bungie previously did this sort of thing back in 2014 with the Destiny 1 expansion pack, The Dark Below. Since then, anyone still playing the game or now its sequel have come to expect needing all the DLC to get full access to all in-game content.

We’ll update this story as it develops.

Destiny 2 and its new Curse of Osiris expansion are both available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
