Sega considering more Sonic remakes and reboots

Sonic the Hedgehog is easily Sega’s most popular franchise with numerous games and their expansion towards films and television series based on the hedgehog and his adventures.

Coming from this, it’s no surprise that the company wants to continue to release more products based on the iconic blue blur.

What’s now more confirmed is how they plan on going about that, which is creating new titles and also making remakes and reboots in tandem with those releases.

“Of course, we have to do new things, but not all IPs are the same for new releases and reboots,” Sega president and COO Yukio Sugino said in an interview with Famitsu (via VGC).

He added, “For each IP, we will choose which method is appropriate at this time. Sonic is Sega’s flagship IP, and we are considering reboots and remakes for it in parallel with new titles.”

These statements also lend some indication on the future of their other notable IPs, where some might not be big enough to garner a true new title, but could recapture some of their former glory through a remake of a classic.

Currently for the Sonic franchise, Sonic Superstars is expected to launch later this fall for Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Switch, PS4, and PS5. You can check out a preview we did on the game here.
