Scalebound is Delayed Into 2017

scalebound 01-04-16-1

Some unfortunate news has been revealed regarding Platinum Games’ open world action-RPG Scalebound.

The developer has announced that the game will be delayed into a 2017 release.

From their website:

Hi everyone,

We hope you had a great New Year’s!

As we enter into 2016, we want to provide you with an update on Scalebound, the upcoming Xbox One-exclusive action-RPG that lets you fight alongside a fearsome dragon named Thuban.

Development on the game is going well and we’re really happy with how it’s coming together. Scalebound is one of the biggest games PlatinumGames has ever created: an epic adventure filled with exploration and fantasy gameplay, inventive multiplayer, and action-packed battles on an unbelievable scale – all set in a beautiful and evolving world. It’s the game our team has always dreamed of making.

In order to deliver on our ambitious vision and ensure that Scalebound lives up to expectations, we will be launching the game in 2017. This will give us the time needed to bring to life all the innovative features and thrilling gameplay experiences that we have planned.

We know you’re excited to see more and thank you for your patience. Scalebound is a truly special project that’s been several years in the making, and we are very proud and inspired by all the work our team has done so far.

We will be sharing more about our vision for Scalebound later this year and can’t wait to give you a closer look at the world of Draconis and the incredible creatures and experiences we’re building.

No specifics were given as to why it was delayed, but we can speculate that it has to do with the games performance issues that was shown in some of the games pre-alpha footage.

We’ll keep you guys posted.

Guess I won’t be getting a Xbone for another year.

They had to delay it or else M$ woulden’t have any titles for 2017.

I swear I said almost exactly the same thing to myself when I read the headline. I may still get one this year if there’s a sale, but I can see holding off longer now.

This game will most likely be on PC as well. I hope the delay will make the game actually run at 60fps unlike in the gameplay trailer.

More time to optimize a game is always a good thing.

I bought an Xbone on Boxing Day in advance in anticipation for Scalebound (since the console barely has anything else of note), sad that I basically have a useless black box on the floor now… not that I’m not used to that, I also have a PS4 after all. But it’s still annoying.

Platinum are swarmed with projects now. I suspect Nier 2 will not release this year as well.

And this is why you never buy a console for games that haven’t even come out yet.

Microsoft is publishing the game, and they’d be shooting themselves in the foot if they release it on PC.

If I were them, I’d be trying to push this game as much as possible for the Xbone. It’s a promising exclusive new IP. It has the chance to be the Xbone’s “Bloodborne” so to speak. A game that everyone wants to play and will buy the console for. It definitely needs to be one of their main games for E3 this year.

Microsoft don’t care about trying to only sell Xbox Ones. When these games come on to PC(which they will if recore proves anything) It will be on Wins 10 so either way Microsoft wins.

Starting to feel like MS really doesn’t give a fuck about Xbone lol.

That didn’t stop Rise:Son of Rome or Dead Rising 3 from coming to PC, so I wouldn’t completely rule it out. They’re also publishing Rise of the Tomb Raider, which isn’t even truly exclusive.

Being Platinum Games though, your guess is as good as mine, they don’t really have much history on PC to speak of. I wouldn’t be surprised if it did stay exclusive.

I’m still wondering where the Nero/Dante from DmC comparison are coming from. Headphones in an initial showing are definitely shared with Nero, but he doesn’t have a weak love interest which is pulling along his character, hide his abilities for the sake of being accepted or even moderately mope.

Dante from DmC? What exactly sticks out?

Square Enix were always more of an announcement than development studio anyway.

TheGamingBritShow summed it up the best in his, now already outdated, “The Real Games to Anticipate in 2016” list. Wabba-dub-dub.
