Rumor: PS4 Slim Images Leaked, New PSP-Like Device in Production

playstation 4 08-21-16-3

A hot new rumor has supposedly given us the first look at a slimmer PlayStation 4 model, as well as a potential PS Vita successor.

The rumor originated from a user on the British classifieds website Gumtree, who offered what looked like an entirely new model of the PlayStation 4.

It didn’t take long for someone to notice it wasn’t a normal-looking PS4, to which the seller was asked to open the box. Here’s what the console looks like:

playstation 4 08-21-16-1

Here’s a comparison of the supposedly new unit (pictured below left), alongside the original (pictured below right) PlayStation 4:

playstation 4 08-21-16-2

Finally, another rumor (however connected to the PlayStation 4 slim) is claiming a new “PSP-like device” is in production at Chinese manufacturer Foxconn as well. It’s worth mentioning this new device is not confirmed to be in production for Sony.

What do you think of the rumors? Could we be seeing a new, slim PlayStation 4 launch alongside the slightly upgraded PlayStation 4 Neo? Is Sony actually making a successor to the PlayStation Vita? Sound off in the comments below!

Ape Escape but it’s a puzzle game.
New Twisted Metal but it’s cucked to hell and back.
Sony Pokemon knockoff with a shit load of waifu bait that dies early because Sony don’t know what’s good.
Crash Bandicoot with the edge turned up to 11 if not a reboot that makes them real people fighting a corporate kingpin so the movie experience Naughty Dog wants to do now.
God of War game that pisses off people because it’s not the movie experience expected of the new PS4 one and is based in Japan.

Well, either that or another cheaper to produce Vita revision.

Wouldn’t make sense for Sony to stay in the handheld hardware game, not unless they were able to create a “PS4 Portable” that plays the same games at lower settings, but such a concept would run into all sorts of limitations and just straight up impossibilities.

I was thinking the same thing; if real, that thing must be at least 3 to 6 db(a) louder than even the original PS4.

Say what you will about Microsoft (and there’s a lot to say), at least they didn’t compromise on the cooling at all with their latest console.

Most of them are digital only, and since most Vita users use Japanese accounts, Sony shot itself in the foot when they locked the Vita to 1 account only and if you want to change you have to factory reset the device, so even if games do get localized if most are digital only most users won’t even be able to buy them

They not only upped their cooling on the xbox one, they underclocked their components just to be safe. That’s why a later patch increased it’s power a small amount.

well, dragonquest has always been a franchise to come out on the most popular [as in sales] platform, NES, SNES, PS1, PS2, NDS, this time, for some reason they went multiplatform, and will be released for 3DS and PS4.

I personally thing if the game could only be released for one platform, it would be the 3DS.

A PS4 slim model is not a surprise, Sony did it with all their home console and they confirmed it when they said the neo and the slim will be the 2 models they planned to make. Making a new handheld is a bit risque because the Vita sales are not so well, the success of the PSP was due to Monster Hunter. It will be wise it give up on the handhelds, unless they wan to do Handhelds version of the PS4 for the Japanese Market.

I don’t think anyone in this thread is implying that it’s 100% genuine, but those pictures are showing a product that casts a bit of doubt. Based on it’s design, engravings, slot placements, this could be real or a very elaborate hoax. Like you said earlier, there’s no confirmation from Sony so we can’t corroborate that this is real. However, like many leaks, it could very well be real and Sony could have just made a mistake. Either that or like another person has stated it could be a dev box. In any case, we have to wait and see what develops.

the console appears to have actual mechanical on/off and eject buttons,
and the product code CUH-20XX, which fits Sony’s coding standards for a
redesign of its console. The last two digits indicate the region of
sale, in this case 16, which correctly matches a model for the UK
    market.”
