Sometimes we take for granted how nice it is to have a large working space when working from your home office. This is also true when it comes to gaming, as the most space the mouse has to move, the better and more precise your movements can be (unless you’re one of those whackos who prefer a super high DPI which makes the mouse move across the entire screen with micro flicks of the wrist.) Our friends as Ohwill sent over their 71 x 43 inch desk for us to check out, so take a look at what this budget priced gaming desk has to offer in our review.

One thing to take note of is that this desk comes in two boxes which helps keep the desk surface from potentially being damaged in transit. I was worried that the crease in the surface top might cause problems, but it’s smooth enough once assembled that it’s really a non-factor. The first box that came was the desk frame and it actually came two days before the desk surface came, so it was a little annoying waiting for the other half, but the actual assembly process took about an hour and a half.
The desk itself is sturdy and decently heavy, so I’ve never felt like I was going to break it with normal use. Another thing to note is that the cupholder is kind of useful but also kind of in the way since you can’t adjust its location. I usually just leave a water bottle in it and that seems to work well for my use case. The other noticeable issue is that the headset hook isn’t off the left side like it shows in the stock photo, but actually located underneath the right side of the L shaped piece. You can only barely see it in the photo below.
On the left hand side, you’ll also notice there’s a panel with some buttons on it. This controls the hydraulic legs of the desk, allowing for it to raise and lower on command. It’s pretty basic for what you get, though it would be nice if it had a digital read out so I could tell exactly what setting the desk is on cause more often than not I simply raise it all the way up for standing and lower it all the way down for sitting. I don’t trust the memory function to remember the exact position and truth-be-told I wouldn’t know if it weren’t exactly right anyway without marking it somehow. The whirr of the gears as it adjusts heights is slightly loud and makes my dogs bark, but it isn’t too bad. It’s a little bit slow, but again, not bad for a budget priced desk.
As you can see from the picture below, there’s enough room here to accomodate both a 48″ Acer Predator monitor, a 32″ BenQ monitor, a small form factor PC, and a 15″ laptop with plenty of additional desk space to spare. It’s also got a XXL mouse mat that doesn’t even cover the entire length of one side, so when I say this is a nice large workspace, I mean it. You can see where the headset actually hangs in this photo and I actually prefer it being out of the way more so than awkwardly sticking out on the left the way I originally thought it might.
All and all, for $299, this is a pretty good quality desk. While I do have a few minor gripes, the build quality is good and the crease in the desk pieces line up smoothly enough that you won’t feel a change in height unless you don’t assemble it while laying flat so it stays even. I would have preferred the LCD screen to give an exact number for the height, and slightly better quality feet coasters, but again, this is a budget quality desk that can likely rival other desks in the space that cost twice as much because of their name alone.
