Microsoft has announced that Project Spark is going to move from its micro-transaction model to a completely free-to-play one.
The open creation suite will become free-to-play on October 5th. To coincide with this new model, the transition will unlock all content that was previously behind a paywall for all (including newcomer) Project Spark users. Microsoft is even refunding those users who purchased content in the game (or the game itself).
If you purchased digital content in Project Spark or have purchased and activated a retail disc on or after July 28th, or have a remaining balance of purchased in-game tokens, will get Microsoft Store credit equal to your money spent. The credits will be awarded to all users between 30 to 60 days after October 5th.
There’s a bunch of new content and features launching with the October 5th update, which include:
- The maximum terrain limit in creations has been doubled
- The maximum prop limit in creations has been increased by 500
- 200+ new assets have been added in game, including a dragon, goblin warlord, bog biome and a set of new primitive building blocks
- Each creator will now have a total of 100 Upload Slots for their creations
- UGC ranking will be based on downloads and favorites, instead of upvote/downvote ratings
- The Project Spark Marketplace has been removed
- The Project Spark Tour and Treasure Trove have been removed
- Achievements have been revamped for players and creators
Have you guys purchased content in Project Spark? Regardless, with the game becoming entirely free-to-play now, are you considering giving it a shot?
