Everyone already knows that Pokemon is one of the biggest video game franchises on the planet.

The latest updated sales numbers by The Pokemon Company show just how much the franchise remains popular with over 480 million game copies sold.

The number is listed as “total shipments of all Pokémon-related software”, meaning this covers all game releases, whether mainline or spinoff. Though it definitely doesn’t count app downloads for games such as Pokemon Go.

These numbers firmly put Pokemon as the third best selling video game franchise, outdoing massive hits such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. The only games that have sold better than them are the classic Tetris and Nintendo’s own Mario franchise.

There are no signs of this number slowing down, meaning it’s only a matter of time before the franchise tops the 500 million milestone.

Their most recently mainline games, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, have even cracked over 20 million sales just mere months after their launch late last year. They are available now on the Nintendo Switch. You can check out our review here! (Despite the bugs, we still recommend it!)
