Platinum Games “Actively Involved in the PC Market” Now, Would Port All of Their Games to PC

PC enthusiasts will be happy to hear that Platinum Games isn’t stopping their releasing of games for the platform with Bayonetta.

In an interview with PC Gamer, the developer said that they wanted to be more “actively involved in the PC market from here on out.” This is echoed with the release of NieR: Automata on PC roughly a week after its PlayStation 4 version, and more recently with the surprise release of Bayonetta on PC.

The developer also went on to say that porting Bayonetta to Wii U also helped with porting the game to PC, as the game’s engine “is built with PC cross-platform development in mind.”

Coming from this, they’ll have a smoother porting process in the future, and they noted that if they could, they’d port “all of [their] games” to PC.

However, this is clearly dependent on whether they own the publishing and distribution rights, and so on, as many of their games have been developed under traditional publishers.

Bayonetta’s original publisher, Sega, also made a similar statement following that game’s PC release, saying they have plans to “explore PC port options,” and they look forward “to sharing more news soon.”

What Platinum Games titles would you guys like to see on PC? Sound off in the comments below!

Eventhough I’ve played the shit out of Bayo 2 on Wii U I still wish it could come to PC at some point, not only because of the game itself but also because it is arguably the best example of the genre and deserves to be played by everyone. Unfortunately it’s impossible since it’s the exact same situation that Demon’s Souls or Bloodborne are in.

Since Nintendo didn’t directly work on the game and only picked up publishing duties, it’s entirely possible, since PG still appears to own the Bayonetta IP. Unless Nintendo has a valid exclusivity deal with Platinum, they could easily port it over and let Sega handle publishing.

There’s no proof that Nintendo “owns” Bayonetta 2 to any degree beyond exclusive distribution rights thus far, and the fact that Sega still owns the actual IP makes it seem all the more likely the game would get a PC release down the road. Minus all the Nintendo franchise references and whatnot, but regardless.

Also, no need to be a dick, dude.

Kamiya has previously stated that the game will not be on another platform without Nintendo’s permission and that you might as well ask for Zelda too while you’re at it. It’s a closed case, it’s not going to happen.

    “There’s no proof.”

They outright said that this is why it isn’t coming to other platforms back when it was first announced.

It’s amazing that, years later, people are still crying about this game.

I think it’s all good. It means both PC and console gamers can get to enjoy all games. All the console-exclusive thing does is cheat people out of their money. Every game should be multi-platform.

Not a fan of Bayonetta though. I think her design signals everything that’s wrong with Japanese developers. -_-

Doesn’t matter which gender of person the character was designed by.

What matters is the actual character’s design. Let’s face it, Bayonetta is not designed for female gamers who have a sense of self-respect.

    >That they’re talented and able to make what they like without fear of consequence?

I don’t see how a hack and slash game with an hyper-sexualized female character is a unique talent. Western developers are more than capable of producing these kind of games. And they won’t need to sexualize the female characters to make it successful.

There’s one thing that Japanese developers are certainly talented at though. And that’s sexualizing female characters and making them sex objects. It’s so shameless that I honestly do wonder why the girls and women of Japan aren’t taking a stand against it.

If you want a proper game, try Horizon Zero Dawn. A superb game with an excellent female protagonist who is a strong and powerful leader that isn’t a sex object. All future female characters in video games should use her as an example.

“I don’t see how a hack and slash game with an hyper-sexualized female character is a unique talent”

Let’s examine that. What does it take to develop a hack and slash game? You need characters, first of all. You need a protagonist and enemies to fight, which need to be designed by somebody. In this case, Bayonetta was designed by a woman. What about the combat system? You need to have an idea of how the character fights, what she fights with, and how that translates to the actual controls. You need 3D modelers to sculpt her and her enemies in 3D, then texture them,, and you need animators and choreographers to rig their animation skeletons and make them move. Then you have to polish the combat system, make sure it’s not boring or repetitive, it has to keep a player’s interest for the entirety of the game. It has to be challenging, but not so challenging that it’s impossible, which means you have to create attacks for the enemies but not make them so overpowered that the protagonist dies in one hit. Then once all this is done you have to get around to designing a world for these characters to fight in, which means you have to get concept artists to design some environments, and then get environment artists to model, texture, and create them. You have to get programmers and beta testers to make sure all of the above stuff works. You have to get musicians to score the entire game.

So, yeah, no talent required huh? Anyone can make games like this, you’re absolutely right. Thanks for showing us all exactly how much you know about game design. You should try making a game, it’s so easy after all.

Also, Chorizo Zero Yawn is a fucking terrible game with a nonsense title and characters who are flat and dumb as doorknobs. Bayonetta has personality and charm, it has fun, challenging and rewarding gameplay and a great soundtrack, in addition to a very attractive protagonist, and there is nothing wrong with making attractive females in games. The women of Japan do not take a stand against it because they like characters like these too. They find them badass and cool, and sexiness is something that’s praised in Japanese culture, not punished.

“Western developers are more than capable of producing these kind of games.”

They are, but Platinum Games excels at those, and their hack and slashes are so genre-defining that people coined a new genre term for them: “cuhrayzee”. Bayonetta and Metal Gear Revengeance are good examples. Even their Transformers game, while simplified on the combat front, is still a great game.

When western devs try to copy them, you get the DmC reboot, or Heavenly Sword. Fast paced combat is really the realm of Platinum (though games like God of War aren’t bad, as well).

I find it funny that you believe Bayonetta is a sex object, though. Not funny enough to debate you on it, mind you – had enough of that on Gamergate – but still funny nonetheless.

“There’s one thing that Japanese developers are certainly talented at
though. And that’s sexualizing female characters and making them sex
    objects.”

I keep hearing it alot from feminist and those with similar mindsets. Looking at a female character by only their looks is a pretty petty and shallow argument to be carrying. You guys keep saying that you want more well rounded female characters, but you tend to seem to focus more on just the appearance.

I dont have too much to add on Bayonetta since it’s been already said, but assuming that you havent played any of the games, she’s anything BUT a sex object. She’s assertive, confident/cocky, has agency….pretty much just about everything you guys want in a female main lead. There’s a reason why she has a fanbase that comprises of BOTH men and women and its not just because of her look, though an attractive character of either gender does help to some extent. If anyone is treating Bayonetta as a sex object, its certainly not the creators nor the fanbase.
