Atlus has announced that the Persona series has sold over 15 million units; with new milestones for Persona 5 Royal and Persona 4 Golden on Steam.
Announced in Atlus’ Fiscal Year Ended March 2021 report (as reported by Persona Central), the series has sol over 15 million units over 25 years and numerous titles. This is an increase of 1.9 million sales since the same time last year.
The games are a spin-off series to the Shin Megami Tensei series. While featuring the push-turn system that rewards overwhelming foes with weaknesses and critical hits for extra turns, the Persona series features plots revolving around the life of teenagers. Players help their party and others resolve deep-seated issues and enjoy their youth, and saving the world from forces beyond heaven and hell.
Persona 5 Royal has sold an estimated 1.8 million since launch, with the prior milestone being 1.4 million by July 2020. Persona 4 Golden on Steam selling an estimated 900,000 copies worldwide, having previously sold 500,00 by July 2020. Overall, Persona 4 Golden has sold over 2.4 million copies, including 1.5 million on PlayStation Vita as of August 2020.
Other noteworthy milestones for the games include Persona 5 Strikers selling 1.3 million copies as of (February 20th, 2020); which was re-iterated in the new financial report. Cumulative shipments of the Persona 5 soundtrack have also exceeded 100,000 copies. It debuted in the Japanese album rankings as the fifth best seller during its launch week (January 2017), selling an estimated 29,341 copies.
Atlus also reportedly stated their sales had “greatly exceeded” their target sales for Fiscal Year Ended March 2021. Despite this, the report stated Atlus made a ¥976.3 million JPY net loss (est. $8.8 million USD). Persona Central also notes net losses exceeding ¥570 million JPY (est. $5.1 million USD) from 2020 to 2017.
Persona 5 Royal is available on PlayStation 4.

Persona 4 Golden is available on Windows PC (via Steam), and PlayStation Vita.
