Palworld – How to Build a Base

Palworld

If you haven’t already heard, Palworld is 2024’s trending game. With the game’s rise to prominence comes the naysayers and critiques. Despite the Nintendo Pokemon comparisons, many are having fun with this open-world survival RPG. However, starting out in Palworld can be a daunting task. The game does give players a basic rundown of how to get the ball rolling, but then it falls on them to make certain it keeps rolling. In this guide, we will be going over how to build a proper base in Palworld.

Build the Palbox

At the beginning of the game, the player is tasked with picking up sticks in order to create a workbench; this task gives the players an easy level and introduces them to the crafting mechanics of the game, but is a waste of resources. In fact, you can skip this task and move on to more important things, catching your first pal or building PALbox.

The Palbox is how players build their base. In order to unlock the Palbox, players must access the menu, head over to the technology tab, go to row two, and use 1 Technology point to unlock the Palbox. Once the Palbox has been unlocked, you will need to gather a Paladium Fragment, 8 pieces of wood, and 3 pieces of stone. With all of that in your inventory, you can craft the Palbox.

Location & Team is key

Now, crafting the Palbox is easy enough, but choosing the right location is not. When setting up a base, it is important to look at the natural resources of the environment around you. In the early stages of the game, it is important to have access to Paladium, ore, stone, and wood. On top of that, venturing out into the wild without proper resources can be hazardous, especially on harder difficulties.

Because of the dangers of the wild, it is recommended that you set up your first Palbox by the waterfall in the beginning area or close to Rayne Syndicate tower a bit of the way inland. The first base you build will not be the only base you will have so the natural resources are the most important factor.

With your first base built, it is now time to start gathering resources. In order to best accomplish that, you will need the proper pals. In order to accomplish this, you will need a pal to seed the fields, water the crops, transport resources, create wool, and make eggs. For this, we recommend starting out by catching a Lamball, Chikipi, Pengullet/Fuack, Lifmunk/Tanzee, and a Cattiva.

With the Palbox built, you will need to upgrade your base in order to place more workers. In order to do this, you will need to:

1. Build a wooden chest and deploy a work Pal to the base.
2. Build a Primitive Workbench and a Shoddy Bed.
3. Build a feed Box & Build Straw Pal Bed.
4. Build a campfire, berry plantation, and deploy a 4th work Pal to your base.
5. Build a Pal Gear Workbench and a Statue of Power

A Proper Workforce

With these 5 steps complete, your base will be level 6 and you will be able to assign six Pals to work on tasks; with the Pals’s recommend, you should have a Pal to create wool, Eggs, seed the fields, water the crops, mine ore/stone, and cut wood. With these tasks managed, you can explore the world around you to find shiny Pals or Pals that are better at the tasks you need; the highest skill level for workers at this time is level 4 but certain levels will only work on select tasks.

Remember, your first base is not your forever home, it is just a great resource management location. As you level your base, you will unlock the ability to have additional bases. So make sure to scout the world around you and find the best place to build your new home. Keep in mind, that there are multiple biomes scattered across the world.

Palworld was just released on January 19th, for Windows PC (via Steam and the Microsoft Store), Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. The game is also on Xbox Game Pass.
