The tragic story of Hideo Kojima’s cancelled Silent Hill reboot has gotten a bit sadder – the only playable prototype, released as P.T., will not be playable on PS5.
While the P.T. prototype is still playable on PlayStation 4 if you downloaded it before it was cancelled, it was initially playable on PS5 via backwards compatibility. That is, until a publisher, presumably Konami, made the decision to make the game unplayable on PS5.
A Sony Interactive Entertainment representative said (via Polygon) that the sudden reversal on the game being playable on PS5 “was a publisher decision.” There were reports of the game being playable on PS5 last month, but the change was recently made to limit it to PS4.
Silent Hills / P.T. was cancelled in 2015 by Konami. Soon after the situation rapidly deteriorated [1, 2, 3, 4, 5] ultimately leading to Kojima leaving Konami, and forming Kojima Productions.
