Overwatch 2 announces Battle for Olympus 2023 event

Overwatch 2 Battle for Olympus

Overwatch 2 has announced a special “Battle for Olympus” event will be held between January 5 and the 19 as a limited time game mode.

The new event will feature a limited roster of characters with altered abilities to keep things in the spirit of the theme.

Overwatch 2 is no stranger to alternate game modes like Junkenstein’s Revenge for Halloween, or the Archive events like the King’s Row Uprising event, or Rocket League Lucioball.

The Battle for Olympus event places players in a Free For All Deathmatch style arena where each character tries to max out their scores.

This event will also feature a more meta prize, with the character who has the most kills across the entire event getting a statue in the Ilios map. You can check out the trailer for the Overwatch 2 event here:

The playable characters include Junker Queen, Lucio, Widowmaker, Pharah, Reinhardt, Roadhog, and Ramattra.

Each character has an Olympus inspired skin that’s available through the battlepass, or the in-game store throughout the course of the event.

These skins are available in the in-game store.

  • Medusa Widowmaker
  • Minotaur Reinhardt
  • Hermes Lucio
  • Cyclops Roadhog

These skins are available through the Season 2 battlepass at certain levels.

  • Zeus Junker Queen
  • Poseidon Ramattra
  • Hades Pharah

Some fans have speculated that the altered abilities we’ll see in the new Battle for Olympus mode are the kind of mechanics we might see in the awaited “PvE” mode for the game.

Blizzard has teased that the game will receive a paid PvE mode in the future that will give players more of the franchise’s ongoing scifi story.

The next event after Battle for Olympus will be the 2023 Lunar New Year event beginning on January 17.

Overwatch 2 has been available since October 2022 for Windows PC (via Battle.net), Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
