OtherSide Entertainment’s Marketing VP has insisted the company is still operating, despite no activity from the company, or signs of System Shock 3.
In case you missed our prior article two months prior, an anonymous employee of OtherSide Entertainment claimed that System Shock 3‘s development team was “no longer employed” at the studio, in the wake of many key figures leaving.
Video Games Chronicle report Studio Director Warren Spector has been inactive on social media (citing his Twitter) for over three months. The Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook profiles for OtherSide Entertainment have also not had any activity this year. One user claiming to work in the same building as OtherSide Entertainment also claimed on Twitter that the studio was shutting down.
Now, in a thread on OtherSide Entertainment’s website (discussing if the studio had indeed shut down), Marketing and Business Development Vice President Walter Somol stated the company saw still operating, and the game was still in development.
“We’re still here. We’re all working remotely right now, probably like most of you. Our new concept is coming along nicely and we are really excited about it. We have cool and we think distinctive art style for it and we have that and gameplay coming together in UE4. I know it’s a tease, but I just can’t really say anything about it at this point.
I hope you all are staying safe and healthy in these unfortunate times. Maybe even gaming more than usual, I know I am.”
However, Video Games Chronicles mention that Somol works in the studio’s Boston, Massachusetts offices- not the Austin, Texas office where they claim System Shock 3 is being developed. They also point out that that Somol does not explicitly mention System Shock 3, though it is hard to imagine what other game he could be speaking of.
In the eight days since that post, Somol has not replied to any other comments, nor has there been activity from OtherSide Entertainment on social media (as aforementioned).
Starbreeze Publishing originally invested $12 million into publishing System Shock 3 in 2017. Two years later, they would sell the rights back to OtherSide Entertainment when they encountered their own issues [1, 2, 3].
Until otherwise stated, System Shock 3 is in development for Windows PC. We will keep you informed as we learn more.
