The debut of Luffy’s Gear 5th has been long awaited by One Piece fans, and it seems that Crunchyroll’s servers could not keep up.

On August 7, 2023, the premiere of episode 1071 “Luffy’s Peak: Attained! Gear Fifth” took down Crunchyroll’s servers, much to the dismay of the fans.

On top of that, illegal streaming sites also took a big hit, as fans diverted their traffic to any other option they could reach for.

The servers eventually stabilized and everyone could watch the episode, but One Piece fans will forever remember August 7, 2023, as the day that Gear 5th broke the internet.

Only time will tell if this will also happen with the next episode, as Luffy’s battle with Kaidou still hasn’t reached its end.
