Obsidian Entertainment CEO really really wants to make another Fallout game

The Fallout series just celebrated its 25th birthday, and while Bethesda are doing various promos, Obsidian Entertainment wants another shot at a new game in the series.

When asked if they’d ever make another Fallout game, Obsidian Entertainment CEO and co-founder Feargus Urquhart said (via Dualshockers) that “if we ever got the opportunity to make another Fallout game, we’d make it.”

He added, “There’s not even a question of whether or not we would do it, it’s just ‘Will the opportunity arise?'” Urquhart’s enthusiasm has weight to it, ever since Microsoft acquired both Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda Softworks.

Earlier this year, there was also a strong rumor that Microsoft had begun talks to produce Fallout: New Vegas 2, a purported sequel to the Obsidian Entertainment-made original Fallout: New Vegas. This is the opposite of what Bethesda boss and living god Todd Howard said, that another third-party Fallout game is “less likely” to happen.

Since then, Obsidian have been working on their survival game Grounded, and are gearing up to launch their curious new medieval murder-mystery game Pentiment next month. They also have the upcoming new fantasy RPG Avowed, and the forthcoming The Outer Worlds 2.

Perhaps when all of these games are done and released, Obsidian might shift gears for a return to the Fallout universe.

“At some point we’ll start looking into what those next games are going to be, and I would be surprised if Fallout is not on that list,” Urquhart said. “If we were to do Fallout, it has to tie in with what Bethesda is doing with Fallout and a lot of other things, but I would always personally say my hope is that before I ride off into the sunset, I’d love to make another Fallout game.”

Urquhart really loves Fallout, and was not only the director of Black Isle Studios but the lead designer and producer on Fallout 2. When he left the studio to found Obsidian, he was working on Fallout till the very end.

“I hung around at Interplay for probably an extra year because I wanted to work on Fallout more. I love Fallout,” he said.
