Nintendo Veteran and Legendary Designer Genyo Takeda Retires

After 45 years with the company, Nintendo’s “Technology Fellow,” Genyo Takeda, has announced his retirement.

Since developing Nintendo’s first arcade game over fourty years ago, EVR Race, Takeda has been involved in the creation of Punch-Out and Startropics, and is credited with designing the Nintendo 64’s analog stick, a first of its time.


Takeda-san also helped developed the Wii and Wii U, and temporarily took over as Nintendo’s president following Satoru Iwata’s death.

Takeda’s retirement will go into effect June 29th, when he will be replaced by Ko Shiota.
