Nintendo has announced Nintendo Switch Online is adding the original Tetris from the original NES this month.
The subscription-only platform of classic games is adding the original Tetris on December 12th. The game has never been ported to modern platforms since release.
A famous version of the classic game developed and published by Nintendo after a long legal battle with Atari – who had previously released a Tetris port to NES with an invalid license – it was designed to be too fast after a certain amount of progress was made.
Despite the game becoming seemingly unplayable after a certain score, it became an endurance test and an esports game most recently with players developing button mashing techniques to somehow play it even in break-neck speeds.
Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack is part of the new subscription tier that launched in October 2021. It adds classic Nintendo 64 games, Sega Genesis games, and Game Boy games to Nintendo’s online service.
