Last month had a ton of major titles dropping that chances are plenty of gamers have found themselves engrossed in going into July. That said, it doesn’t mean that there’s nothing worth playing coming out in the coming weeks.

Because July is typically a down month for gaming, there aren’t as many AAA titles expected to launch. However this opens the door for some unique and interesting games to stand out to keep you cool for the summer.


Here’s Niche Gamer’s release recap for July 2023:

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals is the follow-up to hit indie horror title, Oxenfree. Taking place five years after the events of the original story, the new game will follow Riley Poverly as she returns to her hometown to investigate strange radio signals.

What she ends up finding involves a mysterious cult as she deals with the dangers while juggling her relationships in a plot which may determine the fate of the future.

Oxenfree II: Lost Signals launches for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Android, iOS, and PC (via Steam) on July 12th.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg

As the title would indicate, Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg is a remake of the first title in the long running Atelier franchise. As a remake, it sees the game enhanced with brand new graphics and modern additions thanks to our technical innovations since the original launch back in 1997.

Players will follow titular character Marie as she grows to learn about becoming an Atelier in the hopes of graduating from her magic academy. There’s much for her to learn and players can enjoy her journey as she explores the lands and meets new friends.

Atelier Marie Remake: The Alchemist of Salburg will release for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC (via Steam) on July 13th.

Touhou: New World

The most popular game franchise in Japan when it comes to the sheer number of doujin content sees a new game in the form of Touhou: New World. It comes with a twist on the classic bullet hell formula with action RPG elements, yet remains familiar to long time fans.

The story follows popular characters Reimu Hakurei and Marisa Kirisame who find their world’s peace in danger after accidently bringing a human girl obsessed with Gensokyo. Now it’s up to them to solve the mysteries surrounding this newfound evil to save not only their own land, but also that of the outside world.

Touhou: New World releases for Nintendo Switch and PC (via Steam) on July 13th. A PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 release is set for a later date.

Exoprimal

Exoprimal is an online shooter where players face off in teams of five against each other and against hordes of powerful dinosaurs. However they aren’t powerless as they’ll be equipped with special exosuits that allow them to take over critical roles.

Each match aims to bring about new factors to keep things fresh for players even after hundreds of matches. Their objectives range from battling against other players to having to work together with your enemies turned temporary allies to take down a fearsome foe.

Exoprimal will launch on July 14th for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening is the latest in the long running historical strategy franchise to achieve the lofty goal of unifying Japan under one banner. As can be expected after so many years, the game promises to be the biggest and greatest than all before it.

They promises over 2,200 officers players can recruit, along with new scenarios, events, policies while taking the best elements of past titles. Koei Tecmo are hoping that this game will live to its name and legacy.

Nobunaga’s Ambition: Awakening is set to release on July 20th for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC (via Steam).

Pikmin 4

The Pikmin series returns with their latest entry in Pikmin 4. Long time fans of the series can expect stables such as leading the various cute little creatures known as Pikmin to explore a world that looks an awful lot like a post apocalyptic Earth.

The newest title will also introduce new features such as Oatchi, a loveable doglike creature that will allow players to traverse new areas. For the first time in the franchise, players will also be able to explore during the nighttime with enemies gaining new powers during this time.

Pikmin 4 launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch on July 21st.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise of the Dragons shows off the past of legendary characters, Billy and Jimmy as they fight through New York City in the year 199X after nuclear war.

The game allows player to choose between classic characters along with many new faces that will be unlocked over time. They also bring about a new style for the franchise with roguelite elements that’s sure to add in fresh new experiences every time you play.

Double Dragon Gaiden: Rise Of The Dragons is slated for a July 27th launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (via Steam).

Disney Illusion Island

Disney Illusion Island follows Mickey Mouse and friends as they a mysterious island known as Monoth to discover the secrets and find three mystical books to save the world.

The whimsical platformer has players controlling some of their favorite Mickey Mouse characters as they run, jump, and fight powerful bosses. All in the same style of the cartoon series that first aired in 2013.

Disney Illusion Island will launch exclusively for Nintendo Switch on July 28th.
