Niche Gamer Plays – Cuphead World 1

Niche Gamer Plays is an ongoing video preview series where our staff take an in-depth and yet concise look at classic, current, and upcoming games across all current gaming platforms.

What is going on Niche Gaming enthusiasts. A while back on our livestream I played through Cuphead to see just how hard it was, the answer was: it’s not that hard. With that said it was a game that you do have to learn. It did not help I was using a broken Xbox 360 controller. But without further adieu, here is our world 1 super clip from our stream.

Cuphead is now available for Windows PC and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review for the game here (we recommend it with our highest praise!).

Just getting through it wasn’t that bad. I really DID have trouble with some of the A+s, though. The game should be very reasonable for those who aren’t autistic completionists.

The difficulty of this game is just inverse proportional to the amount of strategies you are using

In my first playthought I only knew how to do damage boost and used an ineffient weapon resulting in a very intense, completely unnecessary, skillful dodging game. With, Luck, I Got to final phases with 3hp So I’d stop dodging and just shooting,. (The intense gameplay injured my arm)

But The Optimal way to play this game is equipping Lobber and Roundabout. Holding shoot button. And Buttonmashing Swap button, So you shot both projectiles at the same time. (Setting the Swap button to turbo in the controller makes this as easy as holding buttons to win)

Using the above strategy on bosses is like get near boss do minimal dodging.and watch them die withing 30s-60s. Also you can stun lock some bosses

The above stun lock is done by dealing enough damage in phase 1 so you can also defeat phase 2 before it starts. Its done by filling 3.5 – 3,7 “[cards]” of damage stopping shooting and waiting for the sinusoidal fireballs (in the video the guy did in 1 cycle).(The reason behind this is cause a boss phase only ends when they finish an attacks pattern)
Then keep shooting to the right side when dragon fades. (that keeps inflicting damage) and finally landing 1 attack when he pops in the left Stun locking him. It simplifies the fight a lot

Now most bosses don’t need to get Stun locked only the ones from world 2. Making this game Objectively easier to learn to Speedrun than doing a casual, normal, playthrought

You can’t press “F” to pay respects. You can’t press “A” to open door. You can’t press “X” to read random scraps of paper for 2 hours while the same 3 notes of “artsy” piano music are played. Of course it’s absurdly difficult!

We have all of it recorded, the next videos for each area are being worked on. But they are shorter because I understood the mechanics better.
