Bandai Namco has shared a new trailer for Tales of Berseria.
Featured above, the new trailer introduces the game’s English voice cast. Bandai Namco has made a note in that this trailer does include spoilers, so watch at your own discretion.
It’s also worth mentioning the trailer has cut-scenes that were recorded on the PC version of the game. Available now for pre-order on Steam, users that own Tales of Symphonia or Tales of Zestiria will nab a 10% discount on Tales of Berseria.
If you pre-order the game on PC, you’ll get a 15-minute bonus video available outside of the game. PlayStation 4 digital pre-orders get you an exclusive PS4 theme, the aforementioned bonus video, and three music tracks from the game.
Bandai Namco also confirmed a playable demo for the game is coming on January 10th for both PlayStation 4 and PC.
Tales of Berseria is launching for PlayStation 4 and PC in North America on January 24th, followed by January 27th in Europe.

December 9, 2016 at 12:45 pmCurious if whether or not the “Sacrifice” scene in the trailer is the only censored content in the game.
landlock
December 9, 2016 at 12:49 pmaccording to the tales of twitter account it’s the only change and nothing else in the game is changed. They were very open about it and said it was because they wanted a 16 rating instead of a 18 rating.

December 9, 2016 at 12:49 pmThere have been talks about the Steam version having a download of the Japanese version of the scene after it blew up. Still, what a waste of money that was.

December 9, 2016 at 12:52 pmIt’s a bullshit excuse considering Limbo was rated PEGI 16 and was a non-stop train of child abuse/murder.
Gale
December 9, 2016 at 12:54 pmIt also means jack shit, because the PC version of a Tales game is a toss up between “Game that runs okay” or “Liquid ass”.
So I mean…woo.

December 9, 2016 at 12:54 pmI see we are starting strong, with the censorship.

December 9, 2016 at 12:54 pmThey didn’t just do it for the fun of it. There is a big difference between Limbo and Tales Of Besaria visually, Impalement by spear.

December 9, 2016 at 12:55 pmI’m not holding my breath. Companies like to say a lot of things, nowadays.

December 9, 2016 at 12:58 pmThey did the same thing for God Eater 2. I think less shops stock higher rated games. Especially in America. I think that’s what they were getting at.

December 9, 2016 at 12:58 pmIt’s violence happening to a child. It’s the same type of violence, just with a different art direction.
Mr0303
December 9, 2016 at 12:59 pmIs it confirmed that they censored it in the game as well? Optimistically it could just be removed from the trailer.

December 9, 2016 at 1:00 pmSounds like bullshit to me. Every shop has Call of Duty.

December 9, 2016 at 1:00 pmThey put out a post explaining the change on Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/tales/posts/1487389204623949)
TLDR; PEGI ratings were responsible.
Quote from the post:
“This is the only scene which has been altered from the Japanese version of the game. Everything else is exactly the same as the Japanese version including costume designs “
landlock
December 9, 2016 at 1:00 pmFirst of all it’s black and white. The same reason The Punisher on the PS2 was originally a AO rating for violence unless they made the torture scenes back and white. Then it get a 18 rating.

December 9, 2016 at 1:02 pm>M rated games
>Selling bad in America
This is the exact opposite of what happens.
Persona goes from T to M; sales only go up.
Dark Souls has been M for all but ONE game.
GTA and CoD in general.
Nearly every EA game.
Deadpool goes R-Rated; best selling R-Rated movie.
Gale
December 9, 2016 at 1:02 pmIt is 100% confirmed.
Gale
December 9, 2016 at 1:03 pmThat’s what they say, but whether or not that’s 100% true is up in the air.
NISA likes to say that it’s the ESRB’s fault their stuff is always censored. But people have asked the ESRB, and they say that no, it’s not them. They censor it AND THEN send it in.
Whether or not Bamco is doing this, remains to be seen.
landlock
December 9, 2016 at 1:03 pmIndeed that’s why it was only in danger of getting a 18 rating for the one scene.

December 9, 2016 at 1:06 pmI’m getting really tired of the rating excuse. Most gamers are adults and even if they are not they’ll find a way to purchase the game. Bamco shat the bed again. I wouldn’t be surprised if more things are censored.
Master Bating
December 9, 2016 at 1:07 pmThey could have just added an adult filter or something.
At least give us the fucking option

December 9, 2016 at 1:08 pmHarada is based, but Bamco may influence the Western port. “We can’t have Yoshimitsu stabbing people – that will increase the rating!”

December 9, 2016 at 1:22 pmThis would naturally be the best solution to counter all the whining SJW garbage in video games.
A SJW Mode for the snowflakes, and a Full Mode for the rest of us normal people. Everyone wins.
But of course, this idea has been suggested before, and the SJWs didn’t want to even hear it. Which proves their true authoritarian agenda.

December 9, 2016 at 2:50 pmCan someone explain to me why the PEGI ratings (if that’s really the truth) has to affect the Western Release? Did the ESRB have the same issue that PEGI did? Why not create two separate versions?
OSad
December 9, 2016 at 2:53 pmYeah, I remember playing some stuff like Mortal Kombat, Manhunt, GTA San Andreas back when I would still be considered a kid (I was still well underage when I got my PS2 so I’m really not old at all), plus a bunch of titles that used blood very liberally, and my parents really didn’t seem to mind that much. They probably understood that it was just a videogame and that a proper upbringing would let me understand how society really is and how I should behave in it.
If anything, the anime titty has probably had more of an impact on me than guns or blood in videogames ever could.
TsukuyomiMagi99
December 9, 2016 at 2:53 pmSo does this affect only the European release?
Immahnoob
December 9, 2016 at 3:14 pmPEGI 18 isn’t the same as AO. ESRB would have never rated it M and even if it did, it wouldn’t matter to sales.
As usual, you have no argument.

December 10, 2016 at 12:01 amThat’s a ton of horseshit. Game stores in the US market the fuck out of your “Gears of Duty: Battlefield Kombat – Definitive Grand Theft Killing Edition.” Just about every top selling game in the US is an M rated game. Ratings are not the issue, it’s the fact that is a niche anime game from Japan and not a blockbuster American game

December 10, 2016 at 3:45 amplus it kind of seems like a lot of work to make a special snowflake mode considering that most of them won’t even buy it in the first place. Why companies pander to them I’ll never know.
TT
December 10, 2016 at 3:57 amso it’s a “graphics” thing now? Both involve kids getting skewerd, graphically both are in silhouette. Christ, the Limbo scene up there has blood dripping, Berseria scene didn’t. Or what, you’re going to try and argue that it’s different because a kid being stabbed by a sword is more problematic than a kid being impaled by a spider monster?
GamesGoodMeGood
December 10, 2016 at 6:43 amWell actually I think it would not be as much work as you think, because after all an ‘SJW Mode’ would involve just removing and editing existing material.
Like, developers would develop the game fully as intended first, and then decide what needs to be removed or edited for the snowflakes. For examples: a small vest to cover up a woman’s cleavage, edited dialouge of texts, complete removals of cut-scenes, etc.
It is extra work that will take time, but it’s nothing major because at the end of the day, they are removing/editing material instead of having to produce completely new material.
“Why companies pander to them I’ll never know.”
A combination of things:
– Company PR
– SJWs infesting Western developers
– Developers/companies not wanting to be labelled as “sexists”
– Developers livelihoods on the line if they don’t conform to SJWs/feminists
