NEO: The World Ends with You Announced for PS4 and Switch

NEO: The World Ends with You

After a countdown website was launched, Square Enix have now announced action RPG NEO: The World Ends with You.

As stated in the press release (via email), players once again must take part in the Reaper’s Game to survive, controlling teenager Rindo as he explores Shibuya to discover the mystery behind the game. NEO: The World Ends with You launches Summer 2021 for Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4.

The new trailers shows us players fighting off monsters created from people’s negative emotions, called Noise, using special abilities and attacks granted by badges. It appears four characters are on the field at once, with players controlling at least one of them at a time.

It is unclear if the player can switch who they control during combat. We see one of the badge skills are disabled when a character is grabbed, and another when they are knocked out. It could be possible players will assign badge skills to their characters, and switch to control them when using their ability.

These characters include Rindo, Fret, Nagi, and most curiously of all Sho Minamimoto. He was one of the Reapers in the original The World Ends with You, though it is not clear if this is a prequel before he became a reaper, or he is fighting alongside the player for other reasons.

We also see Koki Kariya with his Reaper wings, but Minamimoto rarely showed his Reaper features. There is still a likely possibility this is a sequel however.

NEO: The World Ends with You brings a re-creation of modern Shibuya to life in a unique and comic-inspired style. Players can explore and enjoy the sights, sounds, and culture of this bustling city, fight monsters alongside their ally companions in fast-paced action battles, and complete missions as they seek to change the fate they’ve been handed.

A new trailer unveiled today provides a first look at the title, showcasing the hip visual direction, 3D environments, gameplay and battle sequences, and amped-up soundtrack underscoring the game’s eye-catching art style.
