Napoleon movie first trailer showcases Joaquin Phoenix as the French Emperor

Ridley Scott’s massive historical epic Napoleon movie has finally revealed its first trailer to the world, and it doesn’t disappoint.

The historical drama reunites Scott with his Oscar-star, the Gladiator villain Joaquin Phoenix, who stars as the titular French Emperor – or rather the events leading up to his ascent to the crown.

While most historical epics focus purely on the battles for popcorn fodder, Scott’s Napoleon shows the inner mechanisms that drove the military commander to his victories: his one true love.

Phoenix’s co-star is Vanessa Kirby, who plays the role of Napoleon’s infamous first wife, Josephine, whose relationship both inspired his successes and drove him to madness.

“I’m the first to admit when I make a mistake,” says Bonaparte (Phoenix) in the trailer, “I simply never do.”

The film also revealed its official poster for the first time – which comes with the tagline: “He came from nothing. He conquered everything.”

Here’s the first trailer:

Napoleon is set to premiere exclusively in theaters nationwide on November 22nd.
