Mythic Kart Maker is basically Mario Kart 64 with a Level Editor

Mythic Kart Maker

There’s something instantly nostalgic about Mythic Kart Maker the moment you see it in motion. The chunky pre-rendered visuals, colorful fantasy characters, chaotic combat, and exaggerated track designs all feel like they came straight out of the late Nintendo 64 era. But underneath that retro-inspired look is a surprisingly modern idea.

Developed solo by Dream Mix Games, Mythic Kart Maker recently launched via Steam Early Access and it’s already getting attention from players who miss the creative energy of older kart racers mixed with community-driven sandbox tools.

The game’s biggest hook is its real-time track editor. While driving, you can place track pieces, objects, and terrain changes directly into the world, then instantly test the results in races, battle matches, or time attack modes. It gives the entire experience a kind of playful “make it as you go” feeling instead of separating creation and gameplay into completely different systems.

For those who want more precision, there’s also a traditional top-down editor that allows for more detailed track construction. And importantly, the game fully embraces user-generated content from the start. Players can share tracks, racers, mods, and other creations through the Steam Workshop.

The game currently supports four-player local split-screen, however, online multiplayer isn’t available yet, though the developer has mentioned it could happen later depending on how successful the game becomes during Early Access.
