We’ve learned (from Famitsu, via Hachima Kikou) that Masaya Games’ new game is in fact a totally new Langrisser (working title) for the Nintendo 3DS.
The new game is set for a release sometime this summer in Japan, and like its predecessors, it’s a tactical RPG. However, the setting is a bit different, as the story unfolds in a world that is mostly submerged in water. Character designs are being done by Hiroshi Kaieda, and there is bikini armor.
The protagonist, a boy who discovered the holy sword Excalibur, sets out on his own journey to rescue a girl that has been taken from him, and fight the evil imperial forces. The scans (featured above) show off the predominant western themes, although the report says there are cyberpunk elements as well.
Gameplay unfolds via 10 on 10 battles with chibi-fied versions of the various characters. The combat seen in previous entries is returning in this game, which consists of archers, foot soldiers, and cavalry.
