Luftrausers, the high flying and adrenaline pumping arcade shooter by Vlambeer, has actually recouped all of its development costs in only three days since it has been made available on PC, Mac, Linux, Playstation 3, and Playstation Vita. Vlambeer confirmed the news via Twitter:
“LUFTRAUSERS just became profitable. It had a two and a half year development cycle. We are super overwhelmed and thankful.”
Devolver Digital and Vlambeer released the game for $9.99 this past Tuesday, March 18th, and in the blazing glory since then it sold enough to become profitable, as mentioned before. Luftrausers was in development or two and a half years at the studio, a development cycle that saw many setbacks, most infamously a clone that was released on iOS, among their other games being cloned as well.
Dealing with the rampant cloning of their hit games has been a major problem for the small development team, and to make matters worse, Rami Ismail (the business and development half of Vlambeer) had his backpack stolen at E3 last year, a big setback as it had a Playstation Vita dev kit that had the code for Luftrausers on it. They had backups to work off of, but things like this set their development back considerably.
