Warner Bros. has announced a new Lord of the Rings movie titled The Hunt for Gollum.

The film is set to be directed by Andy Serkis himself. Serkis played Gollum in Peter Jackson’s films. While Serkis may be the director, Jackson will be close at hand producing alongside Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens.

According to The Wrap, Serkis had this to say when asked about the upcoming film.

“Yesssss, Precious. The time has come once more to venture into the unknown with my dear friends, the extraordinary and incomparable guardians of Middle Earth Peter, Fran and Philippa. With Mike and Pam, and the Warner Bros team on the quest as well, alongside WETA and our film making family in New Zealand, it’s just all too delicious…”

Of course there’s no telling where the new movie will take the story as it veers further from Tolkien’s written works. For fans of the original trilogy, it’s returning to theaters this summer.
