Lord of the Rings extended editions return to theaters to celebrate Fellowship of the Ring turning 25

Lord of the Rings

To celebrate the 25th anniversary for The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, Warner Bros. and Fathom Entertainment are bringing all three original films in their extended cuts back to theaters in early 2026.

All three Lord of the Rings films from Peter Jackson’s trilogy are being re-shown (via Variety) in theaters nationwide first in DBOX presentation from January 16-19 and then in standard formats from January 23-25.

Alongside news of the The Lord of the Rings trilogy getting re-shown in theaters, special and limited edition Lord of the Rings-themed concessions will be sold at select participating theaters:

While AMC moviegoers will be able to get limited-edition popcorn buckets with maps of Middle-earth (left), Regal and local cinemas can get buckets with a stylish One Ring design (right). Here’s a new poster for the theatrical re-release:

New Line Cinema originally released Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings films back in 2001, 2002, and 2003, all based on the legendary epic fantasy novels by J.R.R. Tolkien.

While the original theatrical versions were already a whopping 9 hours in total, the extended editions pushed the total watchtime to over 11.5 hours long. Here’s a new trailer for the re-release:

The extended editions of all three films were released a year after their theatrical debuts, and the long-awaited 4K remaster has been available on home video – as well as in a limited theatrical re-run also by Fathom Entertainment.
