Level-5 is Developing Games for Nintendo Switch

Despite being a little late to the party, Yo-kai Watch and Professor Layton developer Level-5 has confirmed they’re working on games for the Nintendo Switch.

The news comes via an interview between Nikkei Trendy and Level-5 president and CEO, Akihiro Hino (pictured), who confirmed the developer was making game(s) for the hybrid console. Hino unfortunately didn’t confirm anything further, saying he couldn’t talk about the content of said game(s).

The CEO did talk up the competitive possibilities of having a game on the Nintendo Switch, and highly praised both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.

What kind of games would you like to see Level-5 make for the Nintendo Switch? Sound off in the comments below!

Not much of a surprise. Level-5 is in good relations with Nintendo. Will watch and see what happens.

Naturally, the 3DS won’t be around forever. I’m sure Yokai Watch will be one of the games.

Go to /r/3DS and try telling them that. Soooo many bitter 3DS clingers who refuse to accept the fact that the Switch is a handheld and that the 3DS will be killed off in the not too distant future.

Yes, reddit is shit, but unfortunately there aren’t any decent alternatives for game forums.

Some people do tend to over dramatize the 3DS’ remaining lifespan. Just because the Switch came out, doesnt mean the 3DS is already out the door. the DS had games coming out as late as 2011 or 2012.

That’s some pretty serious delusion, the Switch is literally a handheld, you can take it anywhere, the dock doesn’t change that, and the 3DS is nearly as old as the DS was when the 3DS first launched.

    Typically Redditors.

Yup. They keep insisting that since it can be docked, it’s magically not a handheld. Fucking idiots.

The 3DS will likely be killed off by the end of next year. Maybe it’ll survive until 2019.

Voat basically only has news and FPH. Sadly, the users are still on reddit.

I’d say its last good release will probably be Dragon Quest 11’s english translation.

You can’t really fit the Switch in your pocket, though. Unless, that is, you’re wearing 4XL pants that have gigantic pockets.

To me, the Switch seems like a console whose gimmick is that you can “undock” it to play it on the go as opposed to a handheld console akin to the DS or Vita or GBA that you can hook up to your TV. Looking at the games themselves seems to back this up, since they look like they’re designed more like traditional console games where you park your butt in a chair to play for a while rather than something you take out on the train to play for maybe 5-10 minutes at a time.

I still think that the 3DS only has a couple years left in it and, if these people think otherwise, they’re delusional. If Nintendo doesn’t announce something more like the GBA or 3DS soon, then I think things like the Game Boy will be a thing of the past since god knows mobile games will never deliver.

A Switch will fit in the back pocket of any non-skinny pants for men. You can’t fit a 3DS XL or 2DS in your front pocket, so it’s a retarded complaint to make.

Those are some really deluded idiots.Sounds like they just started gaming to not see the obvious especially since the Switch is outselling the 3DS atm.

My personal favorite is when the kids start insisting that the Switch can’t replace the 3DS because it only has one screen. ?

Nintendo said that they don’t plan to cut off support for the 3DS anytime soon. Their plan is to keep both consoles alive for both markets. The Switch is still a home console at heart that just happens to be portable that is meant to be a shared interaction with family and friends. The 3DS, on the other hand, is a completely portable console which is meant for individual interaction with friends. Imo, I wouldn’t mind the next main Pokemon games (or some Level 5 games for that matter) to be on the 3DS.

Probably the habitual games like Prof. Layton, Inazuma Eleven and Yokai Watch, now if they were to bring something new to the console or something like Layton VS Ace Attorney 2

Nintendo said the same thing about the GameBoy line when the DS was first introduced, that the DS wasn’t going to replace the GB… until it did.

Continuing developing for the 3DS was hedging their bets just in case the Switch proved to be a Wii-U level flop. Now that it doesn’t seem like that will be the case, I suspect we’ll see anything currently in development for the 3DS be allowed to reach completion, and then after that… it’ll be all-in on the Switch.

I still may have to disagree here. Both the GB and the DS lines were portable systems, however since the DS was the superior product (obviously) in the same category, the death of GB was inevitable. With the release of the Switch, it does the blur the line between mobile and home gaming, but the 3DS still delivers a solid gaming experience. The release of the New 2DS XL further reinforces this. However, I must admit that the 3DS doesn’t have too long to live before the Switch begins to take over that market. the 3DS is still going strong and I wish the best for both systems.

The DS line was also backwards compatible with the GBA though, so there wasn’t much reason to pick the old system over the new one, especially the DS lite. The DS and 3DS were in the same position.

The Switch however isn’t compatible with the 3DS, and is twice the price or more depending on the model. There are still reasons for people to get one.

I wouldn’t expect too much serious support for the 3DS over the next few years, but I suspect they’ll at least keep it around as a budget system. They also won’t want to abandon the 64mil. install base until the Switch starts to catch up.

Well, it’s not like the Switch couldn’t get 3DS games in the future via Virtual Console or something similar. Personally, I want Nintendo to just kill off the 3DS and treat the Switch as both their console and portable, because they just proved with the WiiU and the 3DS that they can’t balance development for the two worth shit.

The DS didn’t replace the GBA til 2007.
Pokemon Emerald, Zelda Minish Cap, Mother 3, Wariorware and a lot of kiiller GBA gams came out in 2004-2006
