Lee Isaac Chung will be the new director on the live action Your Name film, replacing Marc Webb.

Hollywood Reporter reports that Lee Isaac Chung will now be the director for the Hollywood adaptation of Shinkai Makoto’s Your Name. Last year Shinkai Makoto had posted on Twitter that Marcus Webb would be directing but circumstances have clearly changed.

Originally, screenwriter Eric Heisserer and Emily Gordon had drafted scripts for the live action adaptation. Crunchyroll reported that the live action remake would “follow a Native American girl living in a rural area and a boy from Chicago”. In an interview with Slashfilm Heisserer explained that producers at Toho “want to see it [Your Name] through the lens of a western viewpoint”  Reportedly Chung will be rewriting the script himself and it’s unknown if the original plot or Toho’s desire for a “western” take on Your Name has changed.

Shinkai is also known for his second animated film Weathering With You.

J.J. Abrams and Lindsey Weber from Bad Robot Productions will be producing the film along with Genki Kawamura at Toho.

The Hollywood adaptation of Your Name currently has no official release date.
