Koji Igarashi is Planning More Bloodstained Games

Koji Igarashi, former Castlevania producer and creator behind Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, is hoping to turn the Bloodstained games into a series.

Speaking with Game Informer (issue 318) about development of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, Koji mentioned the hardest thing was keeping quality control when working with an outsourced studio?

“When you’re working with an outsourced studio, it can be difficult to match the quality line when things changed. With Bloodstained, we would first share our goal with the outsourced studio and make sure we both agree and determine the necessities, but even with proper planning it’s difficult to reach.”

This even resulted in him having to re-create entire portions of the game due to how development occurred. This may explain some of the game’s prior delays.

The game’s Switch port has had a myriad of performance and graphical issues, Koji even stating he “didn’t expect it to be as bad when it was released.” He did reiterate that WayForward is helping optimize and improve the Switch port at this time.

Later Koji also discusses his plans of making Bloodstained as a series, stating it is “a starting ground for the next step […] after putting so much effort” into it. While he says 2D sidescrollers are the studio’s strongest attribute, he is interested in “more games of the genre with different world settings” that will challenge him and his team.

We will keep you posted as we learn more.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is out now on Windows PC, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our review here (we highly recommend it!).
