Joker 2 trailer has Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix singing, causing chaos

Joker 2 trailer

Warner Bros. has shared a Joker 2 trailer giving us an extended and full look at the hotly-anticipated thriller sequel, officially titled as Joker: Folie à Deux.

The first full-length trailer for Joker 2 gives us another look at Joaquin Phoenix as the titular antihero/villain and Lady Gaga as his new love interest – Harley Quinn, though it leaves just enough up to your imagination.

In the new trailer we get a look at the extended cast like Brendan Gleeson, Jacob Lofland, Catherine Keener, and Harry Lawtey, with Zazie Beetz reprising her role as Sophie from the original film.

As covered in our previous report, is infamously set to be a musical – the trailer gives us hints of this with Phoenix singing throughout the trailer set against Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling”, as well as dancing with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.

Here’s the first full length trailer:

It remains unclear just how much of Joker: Folie à Deux is a musical and how much will be comic book thriller, though Beetz said to Variety: “I think people will be surprised. I don’t think it’s going to be what they expect, around it being musical. We all sort of express musically and dancing in our lives day-to-day. I think it’s going to work really well.”

It’s worth reiterating that Todd Phillips is returing as director of Joker: Folie à Deux, and he co-wrote the script with Scott Silver, as well as produced the film with Bradley Cooper.

Diehard fans of DC Comics and the larger universe they fill should know that Todd Phillips’ original Joker film and this new sequel exist in a separate world/universe from the main series’ canon, which naturally follows series hero Batman. However, confusingly, Matt Reeves’ forthcoming The Batman: Part II reboot/sequel, which also exists in another universe from the main canon.

Joker: Folie à Deux is set to premiere exclusively in theaters on October 9th, 2024.
