Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie, says new rumor

Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie

Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie, according to a new report from the production behind the adaptation.

The new rumor (via The Ankler) suggests Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie to voice its main character, claiming the Aquaman star is reportedly in final negotiations with the Warner Bros. crew

Officially announced way back in 2014, the Minecraft movie was revealed at the height of the sandbox game’s popularity, when Microsoft also purchased the IP and developer Mojang for a whopping $2.5 billion.

The rumor that Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie comes alongside chatter that Warner Bros. rights to produce a Minecraft feature film will expire in January 2023, meaning they have to get the production started prior to then.

Sources claim the film has also gotten Jared Hess on to direct, known for directing films like Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre.

The rumor claims Jason Momoa will star in the Minecraft movie but also that Warner Bros. naturally wants to build the film into a franchise – provided they can see as much success as the Sonic the Hedgehog feature films.

Warner Bros. long-troubled Minecraft movie adaptation has been in the pipeline for nearly as long as our website has existed. It traded a few directors and producers, as well as got to the scriptwriting stage.
