After many rumors and lots of speculation, it seems that the Minecraft movie is actually happening. Minecraft creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson confirmed the news in a tweet from is personal twitter:

“Someone is trying leak the fact that we’re working with Warner Brothers on a potential Minecraft Movie,” said Persson. “I wanted to be the leak!”

Soon after he posted this, lots of people speculated as to whether or not he was completely serious or not. He confirmed that he was in an email to Polygon:

“It’s for real. I think every part of that tweet was real, including me wanting to be the one to spill the news about a potential movie.”

Last month, Mojang shot down a kickstarter for a fan-made movie for Minecraft that was created by a few popular Youtubers. The reasoning behind this was the fact that they never contacted Mojang for the rights to their movie, and they were also asking for $600,000 dollars to get it made.

In a report from Deadline, Warner Bros. acquired the rights to Minecraft from Mojang, and they’re working on a live-action movie adaptation with Roy Lee and Jill Messick as producers. Lee is familiar with licensed movies based off games involving blocks, as he recently produced the wildly popular Lego Movie.

Notch however, is not confirming any of the staff or details regarding the contract of the movie. We’ll keep you guys posted.
