IGN Summer of Gaming Main Events Postponed due to George Floyd Death and Aftermath

IGN have announced they have postponed the Summer of Gaming main events, due to the aftermath of the death of George Floyd.

The announcement came via the official Twitter account for IGN. For those of you relying on machine translation, their message reads as follows.

We stand in solidarity with the Black community and condemn racism.

Out of respect for and in support of those rightfully demanding justice and change across the United States and the world, IGN will be delaying the launch of its Summer og Gaming main events until June 8.

Today, IGN is participating in Blackout Tuesday, a day of reflection, action and commitment to meaningful change. IGN will be driving donations to support the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, an organization that supports legal action and long-term change, including on our daily live news show NG+.

Our sister company, Humble Bundle, has announced a $1 million fund dedicated to helping publish games by Black developers.

This is a start, but we are committed to driving long-term change. We will have more updates on how we will continue to support the fight for justice.”

IGN’s Summer of Gaming was originally slated to begin June 4th, with game reveals set for the 5th. Whether this means the entire event schedule has been pushed back is not currently known.

We will keep you informed as we learn more.

The statement comes amid the protests and subsequent riots across the US over the death of George Floyd. This has also resulted in delays and postponements by PlayStation, EA Sports, and Activision. Other video game companies have also taken part in Blackout Tuesday, and offered donations.

Many other US companies and organizations have offered their support of Black Lives Matter at this time. As such, it is entirely possible the other presentations and showcases currently set for June could be cancelled.
