Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PS5 and Horizon multiplayer project in development, says new rumor

Horizon Zero Dawn

Publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Guerrilla Games are working on a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster and a Horizon-themed multiplayer project, according to a new rumor.

The new rumor (via MP1ST, VGC) claims the developer is making a Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PlayStation 5, which they’re prepping alongside a purported new online multiplayer project set in the Horizon universe.

The remaster will reportedly have improved lighting, better textures, new character models to match returning characters in Horizon Forbidden West, and improved textures. There will also reportedly be quality of life tweaks, accessibility options, and graphics settings in the remaster which appeared in its sequel.

The rumored online multiplayer project will have the various tribes from the Horizon series available with varying levels of customizing. Niche Gamer has also heard murmurs of this remaster / online project, but with any rumor – take it with a grain of salt.

While Horizon Zero Dawn came out back in 2017, Sony did just remaster The Last of Us, which came out a few years prior in 2013 – but it released two whole console generations ago on the PlayStation 3. It was later remastered for PS4 in 2014, and was just now fully remade for PS5 and later on PC.

Horizon Zero Dawn was only released for PlayStation 4 in 2017 and got a straight up port for Windows PC later in 2020. It makes sense that Sony does a remaster for the game on PlayStation 5, but it remains to be seen how much they dump into essentially porting the game to the current console generation.
