Horizon Zero Dawn E3 Video Shows Off Crafting, Machine Overrides, and RPG Aspects

Last year, Sony introduced gamers to Horizon Zero Dawn, an open world RPG that takes place in an Earth where humanity lives in nomadic tribes while fending off gigantic robotic beasts that serve as both predators and prey. What we saw at the time was gorgeous, but as impressive as it was, it didn’t reveal many of the RPG features that players were told to expect.

The new video shown today at E3 finally gave us a peak at the crafting and dialog systems, with the main character Aloy using them all while coming to the aid of a fellow tribal whose village was under attack by “corrupted” beasts.

In the video, players can see examples of item harvesting from enemies, dialog choices, crafting of weapons, and the overworld map. Though the emphasis is still on the game’s action elements, it should please open world gaming enthusiasts to see a bit more depth to the title than previous trailers revealed.

Developed by Guerrilla Games, Horizon Zero Dawn is on schedule for a February 28th, 2017 release.

She doesn’t look like a lady who shaves, so her staying covered is something I’m OK with.

Legend of Zelda SJW editon looks good so far!

But in all seriousness, this looks like a VERY good looking game. Looks like this, Overwatch, FFXV and FFXII remaster are all on my PS4 wishlist.

Not every strong female character equates to SJW narrative. If she starts babbling about the fake wage gap then I’m dropping the game like a rock.

the tropes the sjw seem to love

Cyber Souls, crafting edition. Seems somewhere between the snoozefest that should have been better (far cry primal) and Demons Souls/small scale skyrim.

detective mode (with glowing weak points and instant access to elemental weaknesses), bullet-time-aiming, weapon-swap-slowdown. yep, that’s a console game alright. Let’s hope SONY decide they like money and let PC users have a go as well. If not another Bloodborne title, nice to know it exists but never to be played.

  35. Nagato
    June 14, 2016 at 1:37 pm

Between the protag’s personality, deliberately un-sexualized design, and Ashly Burch as her VA, it’s difficult to deny this is deliberately catering to the tumblr crowd.

Too many red flags; where there’s smoke, there’s fire.

  36. Mr0303
    June 14, 2016 at 1:43 pm

I still can’t see anything wrong with her personality. The clothing is reasonable – unless they specifically stated that it is “deliberately un-sexualized design”.

The only possible issue I see is Ashly Burch as her VA, but that is not a certainty. Nolan North is an SJW and not every game he’s in is a Tumblr wankfest.

Sometimes I feel like I’m the only one who finds this game wholly uninspiring. Everything about it feels bland an hollow like Force Awakens. Oops, I guess that’s another thing where I disagree with the masses.

She tried that in Fallout 4. It didn’t get her very far.
