Ex-Disco Elysium devs’ new game Hopetown gets first gameplay

Hopetown

Narrative RPG fans searching for the next game to scratch that Disco Elysium itch may want to pay attention to Hopetown, an upcoming psychological RPG from Longdue Games that features several key developers who previously worked on the critically acclaimed classic.

Set in the fictional mining town of New Greenwich, Hopetown takes place after a global catastrophe known as The Flare devastated modern technology and communications. As a rogue journalist investigating disappearances, corporate secrets, and growing unrest, you’ll be tasked with uncovering the truth, or creating your own version of it.

What immediately separates Hopetown from other RPGs is its focus on journalism. Players choose between different journalistic specialties, conduct interviews, gather evidence, take photographs, and ultimately publish stories that influence the world around them. The angle you choose can reshape public opinion, alter relationships, and even change how different factions react to you.

The game’s most intriguing mechanic is something the developers call “psychogeography.” In simple terms, the stories you publish don’t just affect people, they can transform the world itself. Your reporting becomes a gameplay system, allowing your choices to leave visible and lasting consequences throughout the narrative.

Hopetown also features a cast of writers and developers with strong Disco Elysium connections, including Martin Luiga, Olga Moskvina, Lenval Brown, and several other veterans who helped shape the original game’s distinctive storytelling style.

A new gameplay teaser recently highlighted investigation systems, branching dialogue, and the publication mechanics at the heart of the experience. Get a look below:

Hopetown is in development for Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PS5. You can still back it on Kickstarter (as a late backer, it was successfully funded).
