Second Wave Incoming; Hololive English Given Permission to Stream Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV Hololive English

Hololive English Vtuber IRyS has confirmed the group has been given permission to stream Square Enix‘ MMORPG Final Fantasy XIV.

Announced during her Little Nightmares stream (at 3:49:32), IRyS confirms the group were given permission recently; and hopes she can play and collaborate with other members on.

Ninomae Ina’nis also discussed the announcement on her doodling livestream (at 1:09:49), confirming a few of her fellow streamers were interested in playing. Ina merely mentioned watching them play however, but curious about the Jobs they will choose to play as. Nonetheless, she states she will help them should they struggle.

The question remains who will play the game. The first generation of Hololive English (dubbed “myth”) launched last year. It includes Mori Calliope, Takanashi Kiara, Ninomae Ina’nis, Gawr Gura, and Watson Amelia.

The recently launched second generation (dubbed “council“) includes Tsukumo Sana, Ceres Fauna, Ouro Kronii, Nanashi Mumei, and Hakos Baelz. IRyS is part of the “Project: HOPE” as a Virtual Singer (or Vsinger).

While it is not impossible for Japanese or Indonesian Hololive members to play with them (as they have done before), it would require making a character on the North American data centers, or transferring an existing character. This may put even further strain on the video quality of the stream, and creates complications orchestrating them to play at similar times.

Final Fantasy XIV has recently seen a surge in interest; being all attributed to one man. The game recently broke its Steam concurrent players record with over 47,000; after World of Warcraft streamer Asmongold tried the game. Ina also expresses her hopes that the girls are not mobbed online, as Asmongold was.

As the game has a free trial, combined with the rising popularity of the game, other streamers sought to play it; creating a cycle. The game briefly had to contend with the Western servers being full, and had to implement a waiting list for the digital Complete Edition.

Despite this, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida asked players not to restrain themselves to ease the servers. Among the recent new faces is Hironobu Sakaguchi, the creator of the Final Fantasy series.

Officially, Final Fantasy XIV reached over 22 million registered players worldwide in April 2021. This would also include players who registered for the game’s free trial.

This number must surely have increased since Asmongold took his first steps into Eorzea, and will no doubt swell again thanks to the Hololive girls. At this time of writing, character creation is unavailable on eleven “worlds” across three servers on the North American data-center.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for Windows PC, Mac (via the SE Store, and Steam), PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and still planned for Xbox One. In case you missed it, you can find our Shadowbringers expansion review here (we can’t recommend it enough!)
