Hogwarts Legacy is proof that even the most middle-of-the-road game can make waves with enough Internet outrage.
J.K Rowling’s political views have turned fans against the game and the Harry Potter series, the situation has escalated into many movements being launched which aimed to boycott the game.
Web developer Sam Gibbs decided to create a site which would track Twitch streamers that played Hogwarts Legacy in an effort of letting people know who to boycott.
HaveTheyStreamedThatWizardGame launched February 6th, 2023, and lasted from 9 AM to 3 PM, until the developer decided to shut it down.
The site also included a login function, which would show what streamers you follow have played the game.
Sam Gibbs was met with a lot of criticism, especially from people who felt like the tool would be used to harass small streamers.
Currently, the English branches of the Hololive and Nijisanji VTuber groups seem to be working out what their plan is when it comes to streaming Hogwarts Legacy.
The Japanese and Indonesian branches of Hololive have streamed the game and have been met with a wave of criticism.
What this means is that the tool could be used to further harass Asian streamers who aren’t even aware of the western politics involving the game.
The site is currently a blank white page, with “This service has been suspended by its owner.” written at the very top.
Hogwarts Legacy is launching today on February 10th, 2023 across Windows PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. The previous gen-ports are coming on April 4th for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and on July 25th for Nintendo Switch.
