Death Stranding and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima teased big and challenging games now in development at his company in a new interview.
The news that Kojima teased big and challenging games comes via the new end-of-year Famitsu interview, where the legendary creator teased potential new ambitious games his Kojima Productions studio might have in development.
When asked on recent developments at their studio, Kojima said they have “big titles” and “challenging titles” in development, but wouldn’t elaborate on anything beyond that. This could be related to the previous rumor that Kojima was approached by Microsoft to publish his next game – and further that this game has been officially greenlit.
This makes sense considering Kojima Productions was actually hiring for over 20 new positions to develop a new game, in later 2020. Specific details weren’t shared but the new staff positions were posted along the message “we’re working on a new project!”
Curiously, the keywords Kojima has set for 2022 are both “new waves” and “extravehicular activities.” Kojima also teased some big ambitions for his cinematic storytelling.
“In the near future, when the boundaries of entertainment will disappear, I want to make this the year that we take a step forward into a different medium and expression than games,” he said.
In regards to overall production at the developer, Kojima said they are focusing on returning to pre-COVID levels of efficiency.
“We will seek a new development system for a new generation, and regain the flexible, communicative, and speedy production rhythm we had before Corona as a studio,” Kojima said.
Lastly, when asked what Kojima and his team are focusing on in 2022, he teased streaming is going to change the game industry quite a bit.
“Streaming will certainly change the entertainment industry,” Kojima said. “Changes in the form of offerings will have a major impact on the works themselves and business methods. This will be a year when those changes will be clearly visible.”
