Here’s Another Early Look at Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, in Motion

Full Disclosure: I have financially backed Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night on Kickstarter.

We previously got a look at the winning shader design that would encapsulate the visuals of Koji Igarashi’s Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night.

Now, Igarashi-san has given us a very early look at the game’s “caramel” maps (what they used to call them at Konami), which you can view above.

These are placeholder grids they use to plan out the spacing, monster placement, scrolling connections, and more.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is planned for a March 2017 release across PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4, PS Vita, Xbox One, and Wii U.

Inafune must be crying in his ever diminishing bed of money. Also the music sounds great.

    Wow, that disclosure. I’m impressed.
Iga-san is very cool. Totally agree with the scarf, something felt missing in those running animations that characters like Soma or Alucard didn’t suffer from.

I always found test maps like that pretty neat, just because of how rudimentary and clearly not meant for release they can be.

Kinda kills the magic when it’s not only in the final game but also used in every single match though. coughSF4cough

I’m so excited for this. It looks beautiful. I love the main character’s design.

It screams Castlevania successor and I love it. I’m glad Iga isn’t going for something too different than the previous Castlevania games.

Very interested with all of the updated and actual progress videos we’ve seen so far. Thankfully, this game actually seems to be staying relatively true to the original vision and intent, unlike some other Kickstarted projects. (Seriously, Mighty No. 9 has to be the biggest case of buyer’s remorse I’ve had in ages).

As for this particular update, it’s really cool seeing everything slowly come together, animations are looking very nice, and that jog definitely looks better than the odd little power-walk they had for her early on. The katana animation’s good, but I agree with what a lot of the backers on the KS page said, the kick animation seems a bit odd, rather slow-moving and lacking power to the feel of it relative to what we usually see in these games. Maybe it’s intentional, but there’s always time to change and update. Still, very much looking forward to seeing more and eventually getting my hands on this.

I’m still waiting to the gotcha moment for this Kickstarter. It looks OK or now, but I really doubt it will be completed by March 2017.

I know, right? They technically cover everything, yet still leave little to the imagination.

Now these are updates backers should be happy to see: polls with actual influence on the game and simple and straight to the point screenshots/videos about the games progress.

THIS IS HOW YOU DO IT INAFUNE! It’s still amazes me how your team screwed up even something like simple game updates and backer involvement.

Running animation is a bit stiff.

Well, it ain’t the first kickstarter to actually succeed, there’s been plenty like the shadowrun games and even the recent hyper light drifter.

I feel like Iga actually loves making Castelvania games, and the reason why he left Konami in the first place seems to be that they wouldn’t let him.

This game will be good right? We can trust Igarashi right? He’s not going to mess up like Inafune right? I just want this (and Yooka-Laylee) to be good. That’s all I ask.
